Kennett Square is most noted as "The Mushroom Capital of the World"! Over 51% of the nation's mushroom crops are grown right here in Southern Chester County. For 25 years, tourists have stopped at the Phillips Mushroom Museum to learn about our favorite crop. Though Phillips closed its doors four years ago, a new store, The Mushroom Cap, has opened in the heart of downtown Kennett Square, offering a similar experience for those visiting our area. The museum has been replaced with a 10-minute video showing how the mushroom industry began in Kennett Square, how and where the mushrooms are grown, how they are picked and what their nutritional value is. Fresh mushrooms are available daily (one pound free with a $10 purchase), as well as mushroom gifts and Kennett Square souvenirs.
