Kennett Square Farmers' Market
Welcome to the Kennett Square Farmers' Market 2008 season! We invite you to support our local farmers, bakers, cheese makers, and bee keepers while also enjoying 3 free hours of parking on Fridays. We encourage the use of cloth or re-usable bags. During the First Friday Art Strolls, the market features local musicians from 3-5pm, so relax and stay awhile. Thanks for coming out, rain or shine!
The farmers' market began in the year 2000 as a way to support local farmers and bring fresh produce to the Kennett Square community. Like many markets, the Kennett Market had a humble beginning, with just a few local residents wanting a place to purchase seasonal produce. Since then, the range of options has increased dramatically. In addition to a wide variety of local produce, the market also offers artisan cheeses, yogurt, baked goods, hearty breads, flowers, grass-fed meat and poultry, and herbal products. Although Kennett Square is best known as "The Mushroom Capital of the World", a visit to the Kennett Square Farmers' Market shows that we have much more to offer than our fungi friends.
Here are some reasons why you should come and visit the Kennett Market and support local producers:
- You get exceptional taste and freshness.
- You strengthen your local economy.
- You support endangered family farms.
- You safeguard your family's health.
- You protect the environment.
On average, food travels 2000 miles from farm to table. Come and taste the difference local makes...

Stargazers Vineyard
Location: Coatesville, PA
Product: Wine
Contact: Alice and John Weygandt
Stargazers Vineyard was first planted in 1979; the winery was established in 1996. The Vineyard comprises 9500 vinfera vines which yield over thirty tons per vintage. It is located just north of Unionville, in Chester County, in southeastern Pennsylvania. The Vineyard is near the "Stargazers Stone" which marks the location of the observatory Mason and Dixon used in surveying the border between Pennsylvania and Maryland. They were known as "the stargazers" because they used celestial navigation to correct their measurements over the ground. As in the European model of wine growing, the grapes are grown and made into wine by the owners at the Vineyard.
Stargazers Vineyard uses natural fertilizers and foliar nutrients so the vines can withstand disease and weather. They hoe between vines and mow between rows, turning weeds and grass into green manure. Because of the humid climate they must use fungicides, but they try to use low impact materials to the extent possible. Their efforts at sustainability extend beyond the vineyard. They capture rain water in cisterns for spraying the vineyard and winery washing. A five kilowatt photovoltaic array provides all the electricity for the winery and about half of the needs for the owners' passive solar home.
